Fostering:
Thank
you for your interest in fostering a bunny! We are ALWAYS in need
of new foster homes.
Fostering
is a great way to find out if a rabbit is the right pet for you.
It is also one of the most rewarding experience you could ever
have. We will provide all the training and information you will
need.
What is fostering?
Fostering involves caring for a homeless rabbit in your own home
while s/he is waiting to find a permanent home. You would be expected
to supply food and litter for your foster bunny and to care for
him/her according to our advice, and to keep in touch regularly
so we know how things are going. We are always available for advice
and to answer questions, and if ever you have concerns about a
bunny's health or behaviour, we would expect you to notify us
immediately so that we can take the appropriate steps. We expect
you to treat your foster bunny like a member of your family and
to socialize her/him with regular attention and play time. And
above all, we expect our foster parents to LOVE their foster bunny!
Equipement
In many cases the rescue can supply a cage, and possibly other
items, depending on the current number of rabbits we have in foster
care and the current state of donations. If ever a foster parent
can provide their own equipment, that makes it even easier for
the rescue to help more rabbits. Typically, a foster parent will
purchase a water bottle, bowl, and litter box.
Support
Once you become involved with the rescue, you become part of our
'family'. We will provide you with printed and/or online resources,
as well as personal advice. We have an online group that our fosters,
adopters, volunteers, and supporters use to communicate with each
other. We all help each other out, with advice, moral support,
and whatnot. You should never feel shy about communicating with
us.
Medical
The rescue spays/neuters all our bunnies before adoption. If your
foster bunny is not already spayed/neuter when you receive her/him,
we will arrange at a later date for the surgery. We will make
arrangements with you to either pick up the bunny before surgery
or have you drop the bunny off. You are not responsible for medical
costs of your foster bunny however, if you choose to help the
rescue by making a donation towards medical cost, that is GREATLY
appreciated.
How
will my foster bunny get adopted?
All foster bunnies are posted on our web site and on the Petfinder.com
web site where they get a lot of exposure. We would also expect
you to bring your foster bunny to adoption clinics so they can
get some face-to-face exposure with potential adopters. We will
notify you of the times and locations of the clinics and make
arrangements with you.
What
if I want to adopt my foster bunny?
Sometimes a foster parent may decide they would like to adopt
their foster bunny, but this is not something we expect you to
do. If that happens, they would go through the adoption process
and pay an adoption fee.
Is
fostering a good way to see if my bunny would like a friend?
Yes, fostering is a great way to see if your bunny will bond with
another. However both need to be spayed/neutered first if you
want to try bonding. Is your bunny spayed/neutered? If not, we
can recommend a really good exotic vet:
